BIBLE STUDY

DEFEATING THE “GOD OF MINE”

Think about your answers to these questions. If you want, write your thoughts in a journal.

OBJECTIVE:

To help us see that choosing generosity helps defeat the “God of Mine” aka GREED.

BIBLE TIME:

Jingle All the Way movie clips: http://j.mp/1fs8Q64 BUY THE MOVIE: FandangoNOW - https://www.fandangonow.com/details/movie/jingle-all-the-way-1996/1MV89c9e00...

  1. Tonight we conclude our series about the three-headed dragon in our lives that must be conquered. This week we are talking about defeating greed. Watch the funny video clip that shows what can happen when people are greedy for things!

  2. Read Luke 18:18-30 and think about these questions?

    • Why do you think Jesus asked him to give up everything he had?

    • Why do you think the rich young ruler didn’t want to?

    • What does this story teach you about idolatry and greed?

  3. Greed makes us want more and doesn’t want to give it up because “it’s mine”. Would you say America sees anything wrong with greed? Think about why you think God has a problem with it?

  4. Read 2 Corinthians 9:6-8. What stands out to you in this passage about generosity?

  5. What is something other than money that you can be generous with?

  6. How might generosity help slay greed? Why do you think God wants you to be generous with your money/time/popularity?

CHALLENGE:

Think of things that you can share or give up this week so you don’t start to think they are yours because really, everything is God’s! He just entrusts us with what’s His.
